Özhan and Serkan (Turkey)
Özhan and Serkan represent a unique mixture of traditional Argentine Tango meeting the modern urban environment with all its different faces. Their style of dance reaches from the fundamental basics as they are taught in their lessons, to the spectacular figures Performed at their shows – figures that result from the strong combination of a man dancing with another man. This combination not only gives them a special position on the tango scene, but as they express it themselves: "Being an all male couple also gives us the freedom to dance with all the other master followers, and all the girls at the milongas, without making our partner jealous…!"
The teaching is of great importance to Özhan and Serkan. Their main inspiration comes from the students in the class, and secondly from their own improvisations when practising. Of course, other performances can be inspiring, but they try not to compare themselves with other masters, but rely on their own creative capacities: "We show all the possibilities of tango, not only Nuevo, not only Classic, we are trying to be expressive in every nuance of Argentine Tango. Sometimes mixing genres, sometimes trying to isolate certain features. In performance we try to find the suitable aesthetic for two men, using elements that a female follower cannot. Because of her high heels for example. We always create new things without stopping; always ready to lead or to follow – this offers double creativity in the interpretation."

Lucas and Vanessa (Buenos Aires)
Vanessa Fatauros was born in Amsterdam, from an Argentine father and a Dutch mother. Vanessa was growing up in a home of two professional ballet dancers, her parents, so dancing and music was a way of living, a natural thing. At the age of 19 she came in contact with Argentine Tango, her first Tango steps she learned from her Argentine father, with whom she did her first performance in Europe.
At this moment Vanessa is a teacher at several schools in Buenos Aires:
Escuela Mora Godoy, Escuela Carlos Copelllo, Escuela Tango Bruja and
worked as an assistent of Martinez Paz at the World Festival of Tango and she
has been an assistant for several maestro at CITA.
Vanessa has been peforming in many of the well known Bs As tango
salons, like Salon Canning, La Papelera, La Cathedral La Viruta etc., Casa de
tango (la Ventana).
Vanessa has been working very closely with dancers she admires such as; Gustavo Naveira, Giselle Anne Chicho Frumboli, Eugenia Parrilla, Ezequiel Paludi, Sabrina Masso, Melina Brufman and Geraldine Rojas , Javier Rodriguez.
Together with Lucas they have developed their own style of dancing, without searching for this, they can keep a very close embrace and remain very creative musically, without losing the essence of Tango, always improvising. At the same time they can be very creative, the most unexpected combinations, which are very fluently performed.
Lucas Molina Gazcon from Buenos Aires, has been dancing tango for more than 12 years. He appeared in some of the most reknown tango movies: Evita, the Tango Lesson, Carlos Saura's Tango and Evita.
During his dancing life Lucas won many prizes: between 1993 and 2000 he was 4 times champion of the the Jubeniles Bonaerences (the first time when he was only 13), gold medal for the Salon Style, a dancing competition for the children in province of Buenos Aires . He then went on tour through Europe with the other winners. After other competitions and wins, he started teaching a group of kids and they ended up performing in some of the main theaters in Buenos Aires and in la plata , and also on television.
Lucas is a milonguero in the true sense of the word; somebody who goes to the milongas to dance. He has been a key figure in such renown places as Cochabamba 444, the place of one of his main inspirations, Gustavo Naveira, and you can still see him dance every night of the weeks in such places as Salon Canning, Con Sabor a Tango, La Viruta …. He is also crediting many other teachers for his passion of the dance and to bring him to his level of dancing; Mingo Pugliese, Fabian Salas and so many others.
Lucas is now teaching at the Tango School , Tango Brujo, in Buenos Aires and also traveling through Europe to teach and perform.

Gulden and Jason (Durham, NC)
Argentine Tango is a dance of communication and improvisation, and learning to tango can be like learning any other language. We build the tango from the foundations of leading and following (grammar and parts of speech) to better prepare you to dance comfortably anywhere, with anybody, in any style. Instead of memorizing endless sequences of step patterns (the phrasebook), you will focus on learning the techniques and elements that will allow you to dance your own steps, to improvise in the moment, and communicate with your partner through the dance. Come explore the Argentine Tango with us, and discover a dance and a connection like no other.

Anne-Sophie Villé (Washington DC)
Anne-Sophie, a Belgian native, started dancing Argentine Tango in Washington DC and in very short time became one of the main tango organizers in this community as well as a highly sought after dancer and instructor.
She has studied with many of the great dancers of our day: Fabian Salas, Gustavo Naveira, Pablo Veron, Chicho Frumboli, Julio and Corina, Jean-Sebastien Rampazzi, Mauricio Castro, and the late Carlos Gavito, to name a few.
Anne-Sophie continues to sharpen her dancing skills assisting these and
the other great tango instructors she invites each year to instruct and
visit with the DC-Baltimore tango community. Anne-Sophie is recognized
for her skills as both a follower and leader. She is also known as a dancer
of all styles: a true milonguera when she dances close-embrace and a fluid
and innovative tanguera when she dances the "Nuevo Tango" style in open
embrace.

Anne-Sophie Villé founded the annual Washington DC Tango Marathon in 2002, after dancing in cities around the world and realizing it was time for DC to have a festival of its own.
Now in its 5th year, the DC Tango Marathon attracts dancers of all levels, bringing in top teachers from the East Coast, West Coast, and Europe, along with students and experienced milongueros from around the globe, for 4 days of non-stop tango.
The concept is simple: at a really good festival, you can never have too much dancing. Anne-Sophie organizes the Marathon to include not only evening milongas (all-nighters running till 5am), but also afternoon milongas, daytime workshops, and other events.
The DC Marathon also embraces variety, and welcomes all styles of dancing. Whether you’re a devotee of the close or open embrace, traditional or alternative music, an old-guard adherent or a tango nuevo punk, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. The Marathon’s one driving purpose is the same as its inspiration: people who love to dance tango.
Newcomers are welcome too, and the DC Marathon makes special room for those who’ve never had a lesson before, with beginners’ classes taught by a variety of excellent local and visiting teachers.
The international flavor of the DC Marathon has been heating up in recent years, as Anne-Sophie continues to travel abroad and recruit new participants—and influences—from around the world.
This year’s Marathon, in March 2006, promises a wide range of teachers from America, Europe, and Argentina. With hundreds of dancers attending, it’s set to be even bigger and better than last year’s festival.
